How to Get a User ID and Password

For Students

  1. When and How do I get the login information?
User IDs and passwords are mailed or e-mailed separately to students, usually within 4 weeks of receipt of application.
  2. What if I never received the login information?
If this time period has passed, and you have neither your User ID nor your password, you can get this information by e-mailing the CMS Help Desk as described in Requesting Login Information (on next page).
  3. I have my User ID, but have not received a password. What do I do?
If you have a User ID, but have not received your password, or need your password reset, please contact the CMS Help Desk as described in Requesting Login Information (on next page).

For Faculty Members

  1. When and How do I get the login information?
User IDs and passwords were sent via Campus Mail to all faculty members (full-time and part-time) attached to a class for the Fall semester. If you are teaching a class and did not receive this information, please contact the CMS Help Desk as described in Requesting Login Information (on next page).
  2. What if I already had a login before this went live?
Faculty members with prior HRSA access will have the appropriate faculty self-service access added to their existing User ID. There should be nothing additional you need to do.

For All Employees

  1. When and How do I get the login information?
If you are an employee with no prior access and did not receive a User ID and password from the CMS Project team, please contact the CMS Help Desk as described in the Requesting Login Information (on next page).
  2. What if I already had a login before this went live?
Employees with prior HRSA access will have the appropriate employee self-service access added to their existing User ID. There should be nothing additional you need to do.

Requesting Self-Service Login Information

  1. Employees: It is preferred that you request your login information via email as is required for students (information detailed below).
  2. Students: Login information must be requested via email to the CMS Help Desk. When sending an email to the CMS Help Desk, please include the following information:
    • Your full name
    • Your status at SJSU (applicant, undergraduate student, graduate student, etc.)
    • The information you are requesting (SJSU ID, PIN, PIN reset, User ID, Password, Password reset)
    • Preferred password (for password resets only)
    • TWO of the following items for verification purposes:
      • SJSU ID (if known) -- this is the most unique thing about you in PeopleSoft, so this is ideal if you have it; found on the back of your Tower Card
      • User ID (if known) -- this is especially helpful if you need a password to be reset
      • Date of Birth, including year
      • Mailing Address, including street-city-state-zip
  3. Emails will be responded to in the order in which they are received.
  4. You can expect a response within 2 business days of our receipt of the email. Please do not send a second email. There are several people responding to emails, and sending another similar email may cause confusion. For example, your password may get reset twice and cause you additional login problems.
  5. If you have not received a response after 2 business days, please feel free to re-send the original email.
  6. Finally, please make sure that your email account will allow an email from cmshelp@sjsu.edu through any spam filters you may have turned on. This will ensure that our response reaches you in a timely manner.
