Pop-Up Blocker

Most web browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer (IE), Netscape, or Firefox) have features that are designed to disable text windows called Pop-ups. When visiting unfamiliar web pages, we advise you to block these pop-up windows as they could be used to display unwanted advertisements or possibly impose a security risk.

The following instructions describe how to set your pop-up blockers to allow designated trusted sites on different web browsers:

Internet Explorer:


Windows XP:

  1. Go to menu item Tools > Pop-up blocker > Turn on pop-up blocker.
  2. Go to Pop-up Blocker Settings.
  3. Type in my.sjsu.edu, and then click Add .


Note: You may add or remove websites from the list by clicking on the buttons to the right. You may also set the filter level by clicking on the drop down menu.


Mac: Macintosh does not have a pop-up blocker.


Netscape 7.x/Mac OS X or Windows:


  1. Go to menu items Tools > Pop-up Manager > Manage Pop-ups.
  2. Type in my.sjsu.edu . This tells the pop up blocker to allow this website.

Firefox 1.5x/Mac or Windows:


Windows:

  1. Go to Tools > Options > Content.
  2. Uncheck Block Pop-up Windows and click Allowed Sites for that option.
  3. Follow the instructions to add my.sjsu.edu as an allowed site.

Mac:

  1. From the Firefox menu, select Preferences.
  2. Click Content and check the box for Block Pop-up Windows.
  3. Click Allowed Sites.
  4. Follow the instructions to add my.sjsu.edu as an allowed site.

Firefox 1.0x/Mac or Windows:


Windows:

  1. Go to Tools > Options > Web Features.
  2. Uncheck Block Pop-up Windows and click Allowed Sites for that option.
  3. Follow the instructions to add my.sjsu.edu as an allowed site.

Mac:

  1. From the Firefox menu, select Preferences.
  2. Check Block Pop-up Windows and click on Allowed Sites.
  3. Follow the instructions to add my.sjsu.edu as an allowed site.

Netscape 7.02/Mac OS 9:

  1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Privacy & Security > Popup Window Controls.
  2. Select Suppress Pop-Ups and click Exceptions.
  3. Type in my.sjsu.edu to allow this website.

Safari/Mac OS X:

  1. From the Safari Menu, select Block Pop-Up Windows to uncheck and disable the pop-up blocker.

Note: Safari doesn't have a way to add site exceptions. The pop-up blocker can only be turned on or off.

Other Pop-up Managers/Toolbars:


Google toolbar (http://toolbar.google.com) allows you to click on the toolbar link to allow or block pop-ups.
